Current Practice

Shayne Carter has been a director of Greenwoods & Freehills Pty Limited since 1993.

In 1990 he joined Greenwoods & Freehills after working with two major international accounting firms and specialises in all taxation aspects of superannuation and related products.

Industry Experience

Shayne has extensive experience in advising major listed corporations on issues such as the taxation treatment of superannuation funds, pooled superannuation trusts, approved deposit funds, eligible termination payments, pensions and annuities.  He is closely involved with structuring publicly offered superannuation and related financial products for life offices and fund managers.

 

Shayne provides advice to the superannuation industry on a wide range of taxation issues affecting product development, establishment of new funds, fund mergers, disposal of funds, employer superannuation obligations and taxation compliance reviews He has also had considerable experience on the taxation issues associated with compensating fund members.

Shayne has had extensive involvement in advising employers on termination payments, bona fide redundancies, invalidity payments etc. He also has considerable involvement with taxation issues associated with the remuneration of public company directors and in structuring such arrangements.

Professional Background

He holds a Bachelor of Economics degree, is an Associate of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and is a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia.

Shayne has frequently delivered papers to public and private seminars on superannuation law and retirement benefits and lectures on superannuation tax at the University of Sydney Masters of Laws/Masters of Taxation course.
