Simon Clark is a Director of Greenwoods & Freehills Pty Limited. He joined the firm in December 1994 and was appointed a Director on 26 June 1995.

Industry Experience

Simon has 25 years of experience covering all aspects of corporate tax advice.  His current clients include companies in the property, infrastructure, funds management, property development and financial sectors. 
 
Simon is involved in providing day-to-day and transactional, income tax and GST advice particularly in the property and funds management areas.  He is involved in providing advice regarding acquisitions, restructurings and financing in relation to various major property and infrastructure projects. He has also provided advice in relation to listed and wholesale trusts and a range of syndication products.
 
Simon has been involved in international tax planning both with outbound clients investing in property and infrastructure transactions around the globe, and inbound capital flows where he has advised investors, intermediaries and the Australian vendor or fund. 
 
He has also been extensively involved in assessing the implications of tax reform on clients including involvement in lobbying on withholding taxes, Division 6C (effectively the Australian REIT rules) and the current Board of Taxation MIT Review.

Professional Background

Simon is a member of the Property Council’s National Tax Group and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australa (ICAA) Tax Technical Committee.  He sits on a number of ATO consultative committees including those dealing with Tax Treaties, Finance and Investments and Division 6C. He has presented papers for the ICAA, the TIA and various other seminar organisers.
