Current PracticeRichard Shaddick became a Director of Greenwoods & Freehills in June 2008. Immediately prior to this time Richard was a founding Partner of Shaddick & Spence. Richard specialises in international taxation.Industry ExperienceRichard has extensive experience in international taxation dealing with both outbound and inbound investment to Australia. His primary area of interest is the taxation of controlled foreign companies. This work has been conducted for multinational corporate groups, Australian listed public companies and privately owned Australian businesses whose growth strategies involve expansion outside Australia.He also advises on the structuring and funding of investments into Australia by foreign corporations, and frequently reviews the tax implications for corporate distributions of both retained earnings and paid-in capital. He advocates cooperative engagement with the Australian tax authorities, and seeks to obtain advance agreements on behalf of clients. Richard began his taxation career in London and Singapore in the 1970’s and since 1979 has been based in Melbourne. Prior to establishing Shaddick & Co (the forerunner to Shaddick and Spence) in 1989, Richard was a senior partner at Arthur Andersen. Professional BackgroundRichard is a qualified chartered accountant in Australia, England and Wales. He is a fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia, the Chartered Institute of Taxation (UK) and of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.Richard is presently a member of the Australian Taxation Office’s Public Rulings Panel, a reserve member of the ATO’s Part IVA Panel and was formerly a member of the Australian Treasury's Tax Treaties Advisory Panel. Additionally, Richard has been a long standing speaker and author for the Taxation Institute of Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has been a National Councillor for the Taxation Institute of Australia, the Australian President of the International Fiscal Association, and a Senior Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Melbourne Law School. |
